5 effective tips to care and protect invisible braces

Investing in Invisalign treatment is a wise approach to get a perfect smile. Invisalign clear aligner is an orthodontic appliance which is transparent and takes care of moving your misaligned teeth to the normal position. It does the same thing of applying pressure on the teeth like the metal braces do but the difference is clear braces do not have wire and they are transparent.

When you get Invisalign clear retainers, you should take care of the brace as your natural teeth. Proper care on clear retainers will help you to obtain the straightened teeth within the planned treatment period.

In this post, our Orthodontists in Dubai have shared the important tips to clean and protect the clear braces.

1)    Clean with Retainer brush
Invisalign also requires regular cleaning and brushing as our teeth need. Cleaning the retainer protects the appliance from bacteria present in our mouth.

While cleaning the clear braces, use a retainer brush or toothbrush with soft bristles. Then gently brush in a circular motion both inside and out of the retainer. Once you finished brushing the retainer, rinse it well in a lukewarm water before wearing.

Avoid toothpaste to clean retainers because the abrasive agents present in toothpaste will damage the orthodontic appliance.

2)    Soak and Rinse the braces when you remove them
When you remove the Invisalign braces, saliva present in the aligner gets dry. It will make the oral bacteria to breed in the clear aligners which in turn, affects your oral health.

Hence Dentists suggest the Invisalign wearers rinse the aligner in a lukewarm water. As the orthodontic appliance is manufactured with BPA-free plastic, it will distort or encounter changes in size.

Likewise, don't use mouthwashes to soak or rinse the clear braces. The coloring agents present in the solution will discolor the retainers.

3)    Inspect the retainer for plaque build up
Similar to our teeth, the clear braces are also vulnerable to plaque and tartar buildup. Hence you need to check the orthodontic appliance for such calculus build up. If there is such tartar build up on the retainers, it will appear as a white biofilm on the Invisalign.

When you notice such biofilm or layer on your retainer, soak the appliance in a retainer cleaning solution. It will help you to clean the Invisalign brace. Otherwise, visit your orthodontist.

4)    Avoid eating or drinking while wearing braces
You can drink water when the braces are in your mouth. But when you drink beverages like tea, coffee or juices with clear retainers, it will cause stains on the invisible brace.

The chances are higher for damage in the brace when you bite or chew food particles with the braces. Similarly, the food particles stuck between the teeth under the braces cause an unpleasant odor in the mouth. Hence it is mandatory to avoid eating while wearing Invisalign clear retainers.

5)    Don't forget to clean your teeth
Maintaining an efficient dental hygiene routine is essential even in the period of orthodontic treatment. You need to efficiently brush, floss your teeth and clean your tongue to extract the bacteria present in the mouth.

Orthodontic treatment with poor oral hygiene takes advantage of the clear brace as an equipment to infect your dental health.

Conclusion
Similar to cosmetic dental treatments, you can beautify your smile with orthodontic appliances like invisible braces, metal braces, etc. Invisalign is highly preferable because of its transparency and fewer discomforts.

If you would like to achieve your desired smile and teeth alignment with Invisalign clear retainers, the mentioned tips will be helpful to reach your goal.
